The International Kite Festival or the festival of Uttarayan is celebrated to mark the onset of summer days for signifying the harvesting season for farmers. This is a pubic holiday in Ahmedabad and whole India for celebrating the festival of Makar Sankranti. Unlike any other city, kite festival is celebration with so much excitement and happiness in Gujarat. You can clearly see the sky turning into various colors. On this day, people gather in their rooftops and engage in kite flying competition with their friends and neighbours.



Sabarmati Ashram

Sabarmati Ashram was the residence of Mahatma Gandhi from 1915 to 1933 and it has witnessed several historical events. All the personal belongings and educational and informative records of Gandhiji are preserved here and are on display for the visitors. It is said that Gandhi chose this site due to its placement between a cemetery and a prison. He believed that the path he has chosen will lead him into one of these places. The entry to this museum is free for all visitors. The ashram is divided into 4 parts i.e., Hridaya Kunj (place where Gandhiji resides), Nandini Kunj (guest house), VInoba Kutir (where Acharya Vinoba Bhave resides), and Upsana Mandir (prayer ground).

Jhulta Minara is one of the architectural wonders of the world, and various historians and architects are still resolving the mystery behind these minarets. It is known as shaking minara because whenever one of the minarets is shaken, the other one also starts vibrating automatically. This minar was a part of Sidi Bashir Mosque, but with the passing time, only the central gateway and Jhulta Minara survived. This is the tallest minar of Ahmedabad and is situated near to the Ahmedabad Junction Railway station. The entry to this museum is free for all visitors.

This museum was established by Shri Pranlal Bhogilal Patel who himself was passionated about rare vehicles. Some of the vehicles features here are 1923 Silver Ghost, Chrysler Imperial Airflow, 1947 Buick Eight Super, Boat tailed Wooden Speedsters, 1927 Hispano Suiza H6C, 1927 Phantom I, Lagonda 1940, and 1931 MG Magna. Visitors can visit this place by paying an entry fees of Rs. 50.

Victoria Garden is located at Raikhad in Ahmedabad, and it is an ultimate destination for peace lovers. The Jama Masjid in Ahmedabad is counted among one of the largest mosques of India. This mosque was built by the Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1424, who was also the founder of Ahmedabad city. This mosque is comprised of the beautiful Hindu and Muslim architectural style. The interesting fact about this shrine is that it was built out of stone and rubble rescued from the demolished Hindu and Jain temples. Jama masjid also houses the tombs of Ahmed Shah, his son and grandson along with their queens. Visitors can visit this place without paying any entry fees.

The Calico Museum of Textiles in Ahmedabad is one of the prominent and one of its kind textile museums of India showcasing a distinguished collection of Indian textile. The opening hours of this museum is from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, and it does not charge any entry fees. This museum was built by Calico Mills of Ahmedabad’s chairman Gautam Sarabhai on the suggestion of art historian and philosopher Dr. Ananda Coomaraswamy. This museum displays the collection of antique Indian textiles, some of which are more than 500 years old.
