Expanded on an area of 6 hectares, Shree Meenakshi Amman Temple is the most famous temple in South India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is named after Goddess Parvati. As per the mythologies, this place is the abode of the goddess Parvati and Shivaji visited here to marry her. The opening timings of the temple are from 05:00 am to 12:30 pm and 04:00 pm to 07:00 pm. Although the entry is free to this temple and for VIP entry, a fee of Rs. 100 is charges.



Thirupparamkunram Murugan Temple

Thirupparamkunram Murugan Temple is dedicated to Lord Karthikeya. Mythologies say that Lord Kartikeya married the daughter of Lord Indra, Devasena here. The visiting hours here are from 05:00 am to 01:00 pm and 04:00 pm to 09:00 pm. No entry fee is charged from the devotees here. This temple is the first of the six abodes of the Lord Karthikeya in India.



Samanar Hills

Located in Keelakuyilkudi village, Samanar Hills is one of the major tourist attractions in Madurai. These hills are home to Tamil Jain monks and are decorated with their carvings from inside. The ideal time to visit this area is 2 to 3 hours, and no entry fee is charged here from the tourists.

The Gandhi Museum or Gandhi Memorial Museum was built in honor of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. This museum was built after 11 years of his demise for preserving his belongings. The museum remains open on all days from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm and 02:00 pm to 05:45 pm. You can also enjoy a show showcasing the visual biography of Gandhi.



Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal

Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal is counted amongst one of the iconic buildings of Madurai. The Indio-Dravidian architecture of this palace was constructed during the Madurai Nayak Dynasty. An entry fee of Rs. 10 from adults, Rs. 5 from kids, and Rs. 50 from foreigners is charged here. It remains open on all days from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm.



Koodal Azhagar Temple

Koodal Azhagar Temple is one of the oldest temples of South India and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The architectural style of this temple tells a lot more about the ancient time. The temple remains heavily crowded in the month of Vaikasi (May to June). The opening times of the temple are from 05:00 am to 12:30 pm and 04:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
