KHAJJIAR

Located between Dalhousie and Khajjiar Lake, Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most stunning places you will visit in Khajjiar. It is a wildlife reserve famous for nature walks & hikes and is spread over an area of 30.69 sq. km. At Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, you will witness trees like Green Oak, Blue Pine, and Rhododendron and also animals like barking goral, Langur, jackal, bear, black marten, and leopard. Also, small rivers of Ravi river makes this sanctuary very scenic and beautiful. Visit Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary between 7 am to 6 pm.

Filled with lush greenery and deodar trees, Khajjiar Lake is a beautiful natural occurrence which is located at 1920 m. It is one of the most spectacular places you can see in Himachal Pradesh. Spend some time by yourself by this lake and rejuvenate your mind and body. The thing that is the most attractive of the place is the island that floats which is, in reality, a cluster of grass that is growing on the surface of the lake. Khajjiar Lake is a great option for day excursions, picnics, zorbing, paragliding, and horse riding. Moreover, witness the mesmerizing views of Mount Kailash on a bright sunny day from the lake.

As the name suggests, Khaji Nag Temple is dedicated to Lord of Serpents and is Himachal’s one of the oldest temples and one of the best attractions of Khajjiar. Built-in the 12th century, the temple’s woodwork and carvings display the Hindu-Mughal architectural style and design. Moreover, it is located near Khajjiar Lake which makes it easy for you to explore. This temple houses the idols of Lord Shiva, Hidimba and several pictures of Pandava and Kaurava. It is interesting to know that goat-sacrifice is an age-old practice that still takes place at Khajji Nag temple. Pay a visit to this temple any time between 6 am to 8 am.

While in Khajjiar, visit the Tibetan Handicrafts Center to buy some authentic souvenirs. You will not be disappointed while picking out some great stuff for you. From shawls, wall hangings, antiques to carpets, you will something or the other that will appeal to you. Also, while shopping when you get hungry, head to some local food points besides the shops and have the spicy noodles and steamed momos that Khajjiar has to offer. The timings to visit Tibetan Handicrafts Center is between 9 am to 5 pm.
