Ram Janmabhoomi is considered the birthplace of Lord Rama and is one of the major religious attractions in India. Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is believed to be born here, hence a temple dedicated to Ramji was built here. However, this land is currently a topic of dispute between the Hindu and the Muslim community regarding the land ownership.
Popular as the Pearl Palace, Moti Mahal is located in Faizabad, a town located at a small distance from Ayodhya. Moti Mahal was the residence of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula’s wife Begum Unmatuzzohra Bano and is considered an example of the finest Mughal architecture. The place remains open from Sunday to Friday, and visitors are allowed to explore this heritage without any fee.
Constructed in the 7th century by the Nawab of Awadh, Hanuman Garhi is a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Nestled on a hilltop, visitors can reach the temple after climbing 76 stairs. From the hilltop, the devotees can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city. This temple remains crowded during all Hindu festivals and is one of the major attractions of Ayodhya city.
Kanak Bhawan, popularly known as Sone ka Ghar, is one of the most visited temples in Ayodhya by the visitors. It is believed that this temple was gifted by Lord Ram’s stepmother Kaikeyi to his wife Sita upon their marriage. This temple was later renovated twice by then emperors. The major attraction of this temple is the music show organized by the musicians every evening.
Gulab Bari is a small tomb in Faizabad built by the third Nawab of Awadh, Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula. The place was named Gulab Bari because this tomb is surrounded by beautiful lush green gardens and fountains. Apart from this, a mosque and an Imambara are also located nearby the garden.
Popularly known as the “Taj Mahal of the East,” Bahu Begum Ka Maqbara is a mausoleum dedicated to the Begum Unmatuzzohra Bano, wife of Awadh Nawab Shuja- ud- Daula. Currently, this architecture is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. The mausoleum remains open on all days from 07:00 am to 04:00 pm. Built in white marble, this maqbara is surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Choti Chawni is another architectural marvel located in Ayodhya made of white marble. It is also known as Valmiki Bhawan or Maniramdas Chawni. This heritage is comprised of 34 caves, out of which 12 located in the south are Buddhist, 17 located in the center are Hindu, and 5 located in the north are Jain.
