Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Dargah Sharif is one of the holiest places of worship in India. It is a popular tourist place which attracts tourists from all around the world who come here to pay their respects. Ajmer Sharif Dargah is the resting place of Moin-ud-din Chisti who dedicated his life to working for the upliftment of the poor. This place is a perfect example of marvelous Mughal architecture which is quite visible throughout the Dargah. It remains open from 4 pm to 10 pm in Summers and 5 pm to 9 pm in winters.
Ana Sagar Lake is a made-made lake built by the Maharaja Anaji of Ajmer which is famous for its picturesque beauty and flora. Right next to the lake is the garden Daulat Bagh famous for its beautiful landscape laid out by none other than Jahangir. A pavilion separates the Ana Sagar Lake and Daulat Bagh.
With over 40 distinct intricately designed pillars, Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra was the oldest Sanskrit college turned into a mosque by a Mughal emperor. People love to visit and admire this uniquely designed monument which has a blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Standing in the complete ruins, this place never fails to impress and capture one’s admiration.
Situated in the heart of the city, Akbar museum was known to be the residence of Akbar’s son. Today, it houses the precious Mughal relics, armor, and scriptures. It is yet another example of amazing Mughal architecture that is quite evident throughout Ajmer and has been preserved impeccably. The unique feature of this place is that is not built on any hill like most forts but is situated right in the middle of the city.
The purpose of building this fort was to protect the city of Ajmer and was known to be the home of popular Chauhan Dynasty rulers like Prithviraj Chauhan. Taragarh Fort overlooks the city of Ajmer and extra inches in walls of the fort giving a majestic look to the fort. It was said that Mughals built this fort and has successfully gained much importance as one of the oldest forts in India.
