Trek to Meesapulimala: All You Need to Know

For all those adventure seekers that are on a hunt for new trekking places all the time, Meesapulimala is an ideal trekking destination for you. It is one of the tallest peaks in South India and it is ‘highly’ adventurous.

Meesapulimala is a lesser-known place in the city of Munnar, Kerala but once you trek all the way up to the mountain peaks, you will not want to come back to the plains. This package is included in every itinerary of Kerala Tour Package for trekking and gives you a lifetime opportunity to feel the ultimate adrenaline rush.

The Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) will provide all the necessities for trekking and camping. An expert guide will join you provided by the KFDC. Explore this trek by traveling a distance of 24km from Munnar via Mattupetty passing through Aruvikkas estate and you will reach the base camp of Meesapulimala. This 4 km journey from the base camp to Rhodo Valley will be done via jeep and surprisingly, it is the last point accessible by four-wheelers.

Always remember the fact that the journey to this base camp is difficult, yet extremely exciting. Enroute you can explore the Pandava Cave. The check dam has crystal clear ice-cold water for the tired travelers. Nature is at its best at this place and the crisscrossing streams will make your journey even more exciting.

Wait! Do you want to know the story behind Pandava cave? As the name suggests, the villagers believe that the Pandavas, the brothers in the Indian epic Mahabharata, resided in this cave during their 12 years of exile.

You can hear birds chirping in this cave.

While trekking, keep your eyes and ears open and if you are lucky enough you’ll get a chance to see elephants, gaur & Nilgiri tahrs. Start your journey early in the morning so that you reach the top at noon. This peak is at an altitude of 8,661 feet from the sea level and gives you an opportunity to get a panoramic view of Anamudi which is the highest peak in the Western Ghats. You can also enjoy a stunning view of the waterfalls that includes the spectacular Kurinji waterfall.

How to Get there:

Travel by Road: Munnar is very well connected to all major cities in Southern India. From Munnar city, you can take a jeep to the base camp via Aruvikkad estate.
